Paul Amusa Semanie

Figurative Artist

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Paul Amusa (Senamie), born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, is a self-taught figurative artist whose creative journey was deeply influenced by his parents’ strong connection to art. Inspired by his African roots, music, and everyday experiences, Senamie found true fulfillment in painting despite initially exploring fine art photography and completing a master's degree in Horticulture. His art is a fusion of abstract and figurative elements, where exaggerated facial features and vibrant colors convey deep emotional narratives.
Incorporating bold, contrasting colors and intricate textures, Senamie's paintings bridge traditional techniques with contemporary influences. This dynamic interplay creates a dialogue between the past and present, infusing each piece with a sense of timelessness and modernity. The prominent, stylized shapes in his work reflect a departure from conventional realism, capturing the essence and inner world of the subject rather than just their physical appearance.
As an immigrant from Africa, Senamie’s pieces explore powerful themes such as social anxiety, resilience, and the immigrant experience, making his work both personal and universally relatable. His compositions offer a unique perspective on the human condition, infused with hope, strength, and resilience. Each brushstroke invites viewers to engage with the deeper layers of human existence, uncovering new aspects of the human experience with every detail.
Drawing inspiration from his African heritage, music, and everyday experiences, Senamie’s art not only promotes his rich cultural background but also serves a greater purpose. His ultimate goal is to give back to his community, using his art as a medium to inspire and uplift others.
Senamie has recently showcased his work in several exhibitions, including the Melody of Hope online exhibition at Harmer Gallery in London, UK (2024), and the No Limit group exhibition at Atelier Myszkowski in Poznan, Poland (2024).
