ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

My Ancient Iranian Motifs (1990-93/2005-2006) Although the ancient Iranian heritage are dispersed in Iran, France and other countries’ museums, they are not as much well known as the archaic arts of other civilizations. Persian motifs and designs have been carved and painted on the vases and rolled carving stamps and other functional objects in between 5000 to 1000 years BC. Anonymous and non-identifiable artists of the time, have gradually developed these patterns during the generations. The remnants of ancient Iranian art show a vast range of abstract geometric art to a more naturalistic style, narrating the natural and humane life of that period based on hunting and agriculture.   They also represent the mythical thoughts and beliefs of the people of that era, before the invention of alphabet. The simplicity, expressiveness and graphical power of these motifs create a primitive and in the same time intelligent interpretation of the fauna and flora and humane life, equal to the ancient art of the prehistoric civilizations in Latin America, Africa and Australia .   I worked on these motifs in two phases of time: first in 1990-91 and later in 2005-2006. At first I made some paintings and a while later since the graphical qualities of these silhouette -like shapes seemed excellent for printmaking, I changed my media to etching and wood cut . Most of the motifs I have selected belong to Tepe -Sialk in Kashan, Shush, Musian, Tepe Hesar and other archeological sites.
Although I tried not to change the original motifs so much, the compositional solutions, the changes in proportions, the use of different colors, the imprint of the unconscious personal handwriting, and also the special effects of etching’s technique have created an arbitrary new identity for these works.   - 1950 – Born in Tehran, Iran
