Vahagn Igityan
“My artwork is deeply rooted in Armenian artistic traditions, while also embracing influences from classical European schools and contemporary visual narratives. I perceive a painting not merely as personal expression but as a dialogue with time, bridging past experiences with the present.
In my artworks, I try to reflect a deep connection to memory, cultural identity and symbolism, human emotion characterized by strong compositions, rich textures, and a nuanced palette and the expressive power of material. I think I've succeeded in developing a distinctive visual language that merges sculpture and painting, tradition and abstraction.
My themes often revolve around identity, silence, time, and transformation. My visual narratives are subtle and intuitive, inviting viewers into an inner dialogue.“
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Vahagn Igityan is an Armenian artist, a master of oil painting, who works in various genres. His work reflects a deep connection to memory, cultural symbolism, and the expressive power of material. His precise colors and details convey Armenian nature and culture, blending classic techniques with a modern vision. From an early age, Vahagn showed a profound interest in visual arts. His passion for painting became evident during his formative years, leading him to pursue a career in the arts.
Born in Yerevan in 1978, Igityan developed a distinctive visual language that merges sculpture and painting, tradition and abstraction. At the heart of his work lies a quiet yet profound philosophical current. His recurring use of closed eyes in human figures suggests a turn inward, toward reflection, memory, and the unseen dimensions of experience.
Rather than portraying external realities alone, he delves into the emotional and spiritual states of being, where time, identity, and culture intertwine.
Each canvas becomes a meditative space, inviting viewers to pause and contemplate. His compositions often evoke a sense of timelessness, as if bridging ancient symbolism with contemporary consciousness. Through color, texture, and form, Igityan doesn’t just depict the world—he reveals the silent truths beneath its surface.
His art is known for its tactile depth — textured surfaces, natural materials, and raw, sculptural forms. Wood, iron, cloth, and found objects are frequently embedded in his compositions, giving his works an almost archaeological presence. Each piece feels like a recovered fragment, layered with meaning, echoing something both ancient and deeply personal.
Rooted in place yet open to the world, Igityan’s art continues to evolve — silent, layered, and powerfully human.
While his approach remains contemporary, there is a timeless, grounded quality to his work that resonates across cultural and geographical boundaries.
He has exhibited widely in Armenia and abroad, and his works are held in private collections throughout Europe, the United States, and Russia.
