The Forest Series

“I tell ancestral stories told and re-told”.

“The Forest Series” is a body of work Inspired by photographs taken during my artist’s residency at the Wole Soyinka Foundation in Abeokuta, in 2016. The lush vegetation which dominates the compositions in the paintings give the impression of the forest seemingly inhabited by memories and secret stories. The paintings invoke ancestral melodies like lyrical stories into one’s soul.

A further influence was the classic work of African literature, ‘Forest of a Thousand Daemons’ by D.O Fagunwa, considered to be a triumph of the mythical imagination, where Yoruba cosmology, human, natural, and supernatural beings come alive in the magical landscape that is the forest.
