'As a visual artist, I want my works to breathe life into the society, capture the beauty in mundane objects and people's expressions.'

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Olivia is a visual artist born in Uganda in 1994. She is known for her portraits of African women, who stand proud of who they are and what they look like. She believes that ‘we are living in a society where women have self-love issues.’ Her artwork is constantly exploring and questioning the idea of the female body, and its political presence within cultural spaces and public debates. The women she portraits are independent, liberated, confident and most importantly, born unique.
Olivia hopes to inspire viewers to rethink their notion of female beauty through a process of post-colonial disruption by presenting the self-reliant gaze of her subjects infused in a colourful surrounding. She uses mixed media and a variety of mediums such as photography, digital art, performance, poetry and painting to bring out the message she wants to put across. Her work has been exhibited widely in Uganda and more recently, in the East Meets East exhibition by in the CoCuDi Centre in Jerusalem.
