Jeffery Baidoo

‘My first piece was a portrait of Nelson Mandela. It took me a week to finish it, but that piece gave me the courage to create more.’

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Jeffery Baidoo was born in 1997 in Accra, Ghana. He works with diverse materials to produce contemporary African art. He started his artistic career in 2016, when he started attending painting classes at the Artcenter in Accra. In 2017, he decided to experiment with fabrics, so he took one of the cloths he had made to a tailor so that he could transform it into a shirt. Once there, he found out that the tailor had a lot of spare cloths that he could use. Jeffery selected the cotton ones with bright colours, and slowly, he started developing his iconic style, which overlaps the use of fabric with paint. His first exhibition was held at the National Gallery at the Artcentre in Accra.
