¿El ARTE no tiene género?
A lo largo de la historia, existen innumerables casos de mujeres artistas invisibilizadas por su género; muchas de ellas, han firmado su obra con seudónimos masculinos para poder ser vistas o aceptadas. En comparación con los hombres, son pocas las mujeres reconocidas por su obra artística. Según un estudio realizado por las Guerrilla Girls , solo el 4% de los artistas en los museos de arte contemporáneo son mujeres; sin embargo, el 76% de los desnudos en esos museos son femeninos… esto indica cómo es la presencia femenina en el Arte contemporáneo mundial y nos hace ver que en la actualidad, el arte tiene género.
Es imprescindible entonces, dar visibilidad a las mujeres artistas y su contribución al sector creativo y cultural, escuchar sus voces; porque el arte no solamente es expresión estética, es también herramienta social y de expresión política.
Mayor aún es la urgencia en países en donde es incipiente o no existe un mercado artístico justo; las oportunidades son aún menores para ellas, sumado además a la aún presente carga adicional de la mujer en los roles de cuidado dentro de la estructura familiar. Los derechos de las mujeres siguen estando en jaque.
Satellites of Art busca contribuir a un mercado internacional del arte más justo e inclusivo, con especial atención en la participación de las mujeres y la protección de sus derechos. Promovemos el arte creado por mujeres, ampliamos sus voces, las introducimos en el mercado, protegemos sus derechos y contribuimos a que tengan una mejor calidad de vida.

* Guerrilla Girls es un colectivo artístico anónimo de artistas feministas y antirracistas. El grupo nació en Nueva York en 1985 y se denominó así por usar en su activismo tácticas de guerrilla entendida como guerrilla de comunicación para denunciar la discriminación de las mujeres en el arte.
Does ART have no gender?
Throughout history, there are innumerable cases of female artists invisible due to their gender, many of them signed their work with male pseudonyms to be seen or accepted. Compared to men, few women are recognized for their artistic work. According to a study carried out by the Guerrilla Girls, only 4% of the artists in contemporary art museums are women; however, 76% of the nudes in those museums are female… this indicates what the female presence is like in the world of contemporary art and makes us see that art do have gender.
It is essential, then, to give visibility to women artists and their contribution to the creative and cultural sector, to listen to their voices; because art is not only an aesthetic expression, it´s also a social tool and a political expression.
Even greater is the urgency in countries where a fair artistic market is incipient or does not exist; the opportunities are even fewer for them, added to the still present additional burden of women in care roles within the family structure. Women’s rights continue to be in checkmate.
Satellites of Art wants to contribute to a fairer and more inclusive international art market, with special attention to the participation of women and the protection of their rights. We promote art created by women, we amplify their voices and protect their rights, we introduce them to the market and contribute to improve their quality of life.
